The Power of the Public Library

If you are not using your public library for yourself and your children, you are missing out on a great free resource available to you!

In my county in Georgia, there are a number of libraries in various parts of the county. Each of these libraries is part of the Greater Clarks Hill Regional Library System. The primary library (and largest in the system) is The Columbia County Library. Here is a video (featured on YouTube) from their website that explains the types of things they offer for children of families who live in our county that are available through the public library: https://youtu.be/vPFCApSU-94.

Have you checked out YOUR local public library?

Let’s get specific! First, and foremost, there are usually plenty of books to choose from to check out, generally for two weeks, and able to be renewed. Some libraries may specify an age at which a library card may be obtained. My library has no minimum age. Proof of residency and an adult is generally all that is needed. Not only do children have many kinds of books available from which to choose, your library might offer e-books and audiobooks, as well.

There are also often various programs in which children with parents (or grandparents!) might participate, such as story time. Arts and crafts are another activity sometimes offered. There are generally puzzles and games, including computer on offer, as well. I hope you will take advantage of all YOUR local library has to offer you and your family! Happy reading!
